Black Lives Matter
Systemic racism, discrimination, and brutality against the Black community must end. At Strive Family Resources we stand alongside and mourn with those who have lost so much in a country that proclaims all are created equal, yet fails to uphold the most basic of human rights for people of color.
We commit to better understanding our biases while using our privilege to uplift the voices of our Black and Brown brothers and sisters.
Promises are easy; words require minimal energy. In a time when corporations offer up lip service in support of the latest cause, here are some of the concrete, long-term changes we are implementing as suggested by advocates within the Black community:
Create parenting content and publish resources that speaks to the specific strengths and needs of communities of color, including ways to support those impacted by the trauma of racism and police brutality
Advocate in schools and communities for students and young adults of color to receive equitable supports
Support policies at the local, state, and federal level that reduce institutionalized racism or address solutions to long-term discrimination
Seek out and promoote content that supports communities of color created by educators, mental health professionals, and advocates who can speak to the realities of racial inequalities that exist throughout our country
Create and promote content designed to initiate/continue the conversation on privilege, institutionalized racism, understanding biases, and other important topics to help Whites better understand their role in dismantling the discriminatory roots of our society
As the situation evolves, we will do our best to adapt in ways that support a future of equity and justice - the very rights Emmett Till, Breonna Taylor, Michael Brown, Tamar Rice, George Floyd, Dominique "Rem'mie" Fells, Trayvon Martin, Antwon Rose Jr., Nina Pop, Ahmaud Arbery and millions of others are denied.
Resolutely,
Erika
