Online class: Talking with the Teens

Talking with a 15 year old about privilege or social media boundaries is … complicated. Discussing sex or other sensitive topics can feel nearly impossible.

We can help with that.

Class is appropriate for:

Parents, adult guardians, educators, other adults in important roles.

Class summary: Communication is a vital part of any relationship. The inability to effectively communicate can often be a source of frustration for both the adult and the teen.

This class aims to help parents and other adults improve their communication skills with kids between the ages of 12 and 19.

Topics covered include:

  • How brain development and family roles can impact communication
  • Healthy vs Unhealthy communication styles (traps to watch out for)
  • Creating a safe and encouraging space for difficult topics
  • Healthy ways to disagree
  • Talking about difficult subjects (e.g., racism, privilege, social media, drugs, death/loss)

  • 2 meetings - 2 hours each (there is a 15 minute break approximately mid-way through the 2 hours)

  • Limited number of people per class

  • Cost: $85/person

  • Class meets online via Zoom on two consecutive evenings Materials included:

  • Downloadable handouts

  • Activities to try at home

  • In-class activities to practice skills


Our next "Talking with Teens" is scheduled for June 2 and June 3, 2023 from 7pm - 9:15pm EST.
